Cosplay is a huge part of the Japanese otaku culture. Stemming from the words ‘costume’ and ‘play’, cosplay is the act of dressing up as your favorite anime, manga, or game character. It is a very popular hobby among Japanese pop culture enthusiasts – both in Japan and overseas. However, not everyone has the skills, patience, and funds needed to create a cosplay costume from scratch, and take nice pictures of it – that’s why various studios started renting out the costumes for people to try out and take pictures in. If you have always wondered how you would look as Sailor Moon, Hatsune Miku, or your favorite Final Fantasy hero, we introduce you to 5 cosplay studios in Tokyo that can help you out.
